Threefold Village Celebrating Diwali

The Red-Tailed Hawklings’ Rangoli in recognition of Diwali November 2020

Threefold Village embraces the opportunity to share the diverse cultures of the community.  Our dedication to acknowledging cultures in authenticity is bolstered by the gifts of our staff, who eagerly share their experience and knowledge, and are equally delighted to embrace one another’s cultures, as well.

Today, we learn from the knowledge and gifts of TFV’s Gr. 1 educator, Rajeshwari Rajamani, who the children so fondly call “Miss. Rajee.”

We welcome you to enjoy her beautiful voice, while reflecting on the time of Diwali:

Diwali is the celebration of inner light in this season of outer darkness. It celebrates the victory of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana, after he abducted Queen Seeta. Their victorious return was celebrated by all the people- lightning clay lamps (Diyas), hanging flower garlands, making colourful floor patterns (Rangoli), and setting off a few firecrackers. In different parts of India the celebration also includes wearing new clothes, (spring) cleaning the house, going to the temple/ doing a prayer ceremony to the Goddess of wealth (Lakshmi), visiting family and friends, giving alms to the poor/ doing acts of charity, and sharing traditional sweets/ dried fruits/ nuts. May this season of light bring the blessings of Spirit to all!
