Field Trip to Wishtoyo April 19, 2018
April 19, 2018 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
$15Please join us on April 19th for a Threefold Village field trip to Wishtoyo Chumash Village in Malibu, where we will have the privilege and opportunity to witness the wisdom of the ancient Chumash culture. Wishtoyo is a historic site located on the bluffs of Malibu, overlooking the ocean. It is an authentic recreation of a working Native American village where traditional methods and materials were utilized in its construction. It is also a gathering place for inner-tribal ceremonies and events. It is the only living Chumash cultural village of its kind in Southern California.
During our field trip to Wishtoyo, we will get to experience a ceremony in sil’i’yik by the sacred fire, tour and learn about a typical day in a Chumash village, including tasks like house building, clothes making and food preparation using natural resources. We will also listen to traditional stories and songs in ‘ap (traditional Chumash dwelling). After the tour, we will head down the path to the beach to enjoy some play time with friends and possibly explore tide pools (if the tide is low). Please bring your own lunch and beach gear.
Please park along Pacific Coast Hwy just before Nicholas Canyon State Beach and walk down past the yellow gate to the Village.
Here is a beautiful video of the Village and it’s elder, Mati Waiya:
