Our Educators for Session 1 (June 28 – July 23) are: Mrs. Rajamani, Miss Mori, and Mr. Kelvin
Mornings will begin outdoors with movement activities and games with Mrs. Rajamani. Next, children will be preparing, serving, and enjoying a snack. Indoor time will include a story and an art project each day (clay, painting, drawing, recorder, and drama). The children will enjoy a break for lunch (sent from home) and free play. The activities will be tailored to children ranging from 8-13 years, with older children given more responsibility, independence, and leadership opportunities in keeping with their abilities.
Afternoons for weeks 1 and 2 will be Arts & Games with Ms. Mori who will lead a delightful exploration of various crafts and projects. The creative work will be interspersed with group games, nature walks, music, stories, free play, and other physical activities. Each week there will be one main project and smaller ones, for those who complete early or are developing the fundamentals. The crafts may include dye experiments, felting, sewing, knitting, crochet, macrame, basket-making, and simple jewelry-making. Some of the activities will build upon each other as the children create meaningful and beautiful handmade items.
We use quality materials and incorporate the natural world into our projects. There will be room for the children to follow their artistic passions if they want to focus on certain skills or projects more than others.
Afternoons for weeks 3 and 4 will be Cultural Drumming with Mr. Kelvin. Percussion is a large part of cultural music worldwide. In some parts of the world, percussion is the ONLY form of music taught. Mr. Kelvin will show the children patterns from across the world. He will instruct rhythms of many continents including but not limited to, Africa, Asia, and the Americas to enrich their mind, expose them to different cultures while having fun learning a new skill.
